Welcome to Episode 33 of the Equine Photo School Podcast! I’m your host, Olie Moss, and today we are talking about overcoming obstacles in your career and life.

We all start out in different places with different abilities and in different circumstances. However, we all run into roadblocks along our journey. Often those roadblocks feel unique to us as we look around and find that everyone else is flying through life easily. I’m here to tell you that just isn’t the case, we all hit roadblocks.

Let’s narrow in on photography and those obstacles that get in our way to create the images we have to want to make. These principles apply to almost all areas of our lives.

We can imagine it as a race where we are all going at our own pace. As we run along we all start out as a noob with our first-ever camera. At first, there are a lot of us running the race. As we start to learn photography we inevitably run into the Manual Mode roadblock for example. This is where a lot of people get stuck. Most don’t even attempt to learn it and they stay there. But, not you. You climb over that obstacle leaving many of your “competitors” behind. There are still lots of others who made it over that obstacle but there are more to come. Every time you hit a new obstacle just think about all the others who get stuck there. Some of them keep hitting their head on that wall and some give up and exit the race there.

Every obstacle has an exit ramp, you can decide to quit right there and many do. But, if you figure out a way past that obstacle, just imagine how many people you’re ahead of now. As you go down this road, the obstacles get bigger but you’re also getting better at figuring out the solution too. Before long, you’ll branch off on a path that few have traveled. You’ll have unique obstacles to conquer because we eventually run into our own unique obstacles.

At some point, you’ll look back and see how far you’ve come. You will be able to see where others are struggling and help them overcome their obstacles. That’s why I created Equine Photo School. So that I could help you and many others like you overcome their obstacles. Some obstacles are so big that they have an excellent view of the course we are all running. From there, it’s easy to see that this isn’t a race at all. It just feels like it at first but there is abundance and even if we go back to help other’s we don’t lose our place.
